I have always been fascinated by the concept of worship and the motivations behind human devotion. This image is a composite deity formed from the skeletal structures of various extinct megafauna.
The focal point of this deity is the head of Smilodon fatalis, the saber-toothed cat that once coexisted with, and often preyed upon humans. Drawing inspiration from the historical worship of megafauna the natural world, I explore the profound impact that these beings have had on our collective consciousness.
Employing a multidimensional artistic approach, I have constructed a process involving drawing, scanning, digital modification, printing, and iterative drawing cycles. This process combines both digital and physical media, resulting in a final drawing that embodies the convergence of these realms.
The interplay between the digital and physical dimensions has bestowed permanent artifacts upon the image, serving as tangible remnants of the artistic process.
This work prompts contemplation about the future evolution of our relationship with the digital realm. As we venture into the creation of conscious beings within the digital space, I ponder their inevitable role as objects of worship and veneration.
Echoing the dynamic between ancient megafauna and humans, these synthetic, sentient entities may ultimately prey upon us, as the ancient Smilodon once did.
I aim to evoke introspection and curiosity about the complexities of worship, our connection to the natural world, and the potential ramifications of our technological advancements.
By melding ancient history, speculative future, and a hybrid artistic approach, I invite viewers to reflect on our place in the ever-shifting tapestry of existence.
